How to Use AliExpress Extension Settings for Maximum Research Speed
How to Use AliExpress Extension Settings for Maximum Research Speed
Quick answer: Open any AliExpress page, open the AliShopping Tools panel, and click the Settings tab. Set Currency and Ship to Country to the market you actually sell into, set Display language if you don't want English, then click Save — changes are not committed until you do. That is the configuration that changes what you see. Everything else in the tab is either a default that already works or a privacy control.
Most people never open this tab, and for a US-in-USD workflow that is the correct decision. It matters in two cases: you are not pricing in USD, or you want to change what the extension stores about your usage.
This guide walks the tab group by group and — just as usefully — names the settings people go looking for and don't find.

Where the settings actually are
Settings are a tab inside the research panel. There is no separate options page: the extension declares no options_ui in its manifest, so right-clicking the toolbar icon offers you no "Options" entry and nothing opens in a new tab.
So the path is: open an AliExpress page → open the panel → Settings tab.
One thing to know before you touch anything: edits are not applied as you type. The header shows an unsaved indicator the moment you change a field, and the change lands only when you click Save. Reset, next to it, puts every group back to shipped defaults in one action.
Group 1 — Locale
This is the group that changes the numbers you read.
- Currency — 18 options, USD by default. Every price the panel shows is displayed in the one you pick, which is what makes margin figures comparable across a research session instead of you converting per product.
- Ship to Country — 47 destinations, US by default. Shipping cost and availability are looked up for this country, so a mismatch here quietly makes the shipping read irrelevant to you.
If you set two things in this tab, set these two.
Group 2 — Preferences
Market targeting, as three multi-selects. Each one is capped at three choices, which keeps lookups fast rather than fanning out across every market at once.
- Ship-to countries — up to three, from a 34-market list. Default: US.
- Preferred currencies — up to three. Default: USD.
- Data languages — up to three. Default: EN. This is the language of the product data requested, not the interface.
Selling into a single market? Leaving all three at their single default is the right setup, not laziness.
Group 3 — Behavior
Two toggles. That is the entire group.
- Auto-detect products — on by default. The extension analyses the listing you are on without you asking.
- Smart affiliate links — off by default. Turn it on if you want product links generated with affiliate parameters attached.
The panel's source carries an explicit note that auto-open, panel position, compact mode and dark mode were pulled from this group because they are not implemented. If you have read about them elsewhere — including in earlier versions of this article — they are not in the shipping build.

Group 4 — Appearance
One setting: Display language, English by default, with 16 interface locales shipping today — English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic and Hebrew. Arabic and Hebrew render right-to-left.
This changes the extension's own interface text only. AliExpress listing text stays in whatever language AliExpress served.
Group 5 — Privacy and Data
Two controls, plus a link.
- Anonymous insights — a single consent toggle, off unless you have explicitly switched it on, changeable either way at any time.
- Clear tracking data — a button that wipes the tracking data stored locally. Immediate, and it leaves the rest of your settings alone.
- Methodology — a short explainer beside the toggle linking to the full privacy policy.
There is no local-only mode and no telemetry-versus-analytics split. The analysis tabs call the AliShopping API either way; this toggle governs stored usage data, not whether the extension talks to the network.
Group 6 — About
Version string for the build you are running, plus links out to the website, guide, blog, changelog, privacy policy and terms. If you file a support ticket, the version string is the part worth quoting.
What you will go looking for and not find
This is the most common misreading of the tab, so it is worth stating plainly.
- No scoring thresholds. No minimum Winning Score, no target-margin field, no saturation ceiling, no supplier-trust floor. The analysis tabs report their scores; they do not gate anything against numbers you set. The Profit tab computes a margin from the listing's own figures — it is a read-out, not a filter you calibrate.
- No alerts of any kind. The extension requests only the
storageandtabspermissions. It does not request Chrome's notifications permission, so price-drop alerts, daily-deal pings and quiet hours do not exist to be configured. - No auto-open, panel position, or default-tab setting. See Behavior above.
- No keyboard shortcuts. The manifest declares no commands, so Chrome has nothing to bind and there is no shortcuts page. Opening the panel is a click.
- No per-market calibration of the scores. The Winning Score is computed server-side on a fixed 0–100 scale, identical for every user.
The realistic 2-minute setup
- Currency — set to the currency you actually price in.
- Ship to Country — set to where you actually ship.
- Preferences — mirror the two above if you work more than one market (three max per field).
- Display language — only if you don't want English.
- Save — nothing above is committed until you click it.
That is the whole configurable surface. After this, product pages read in your currency with shipping looked up for your destination; the scores themselves are unchanged, because they are not user-tunable.
FAQ
Where do I find AliShopping Tools settings?
Inside the panel. Open an AliExpress page, open the AliShopping Tools panel, click the Settings tab. There is no separate options page and no right-click "Options" entry.
Can I reset settings to default?
Yes — Reset in the Settings tab header returns every group to shipped defaults in one action. Click Save afterwards if you then want to re-apply a few preferences.
Do settings sync across devices?
No. The Settings tab persists to the browser's local extension storage, so a second machine starts at defaults. The one exception is the privacy consent flag, which lives in Chrome's synced storage.
Why did my changes disappear?
You navigated away before clicking Save. The unsaved indicator in the header stays visible until you commit.
What currency should I use if I sell in multiple markets?
Set Locale to your primary market, then use the Preferences multi-selects for the others — three per field is the cap. The Profit tab has no currency control of its own; it prices in whatever the Locale group is set to, so switching markets means switching Locale.
Published by the AliShopping Tools team. This page was rewritten on 2026-07-23 against the shipping Settings tab; an earlier version described auto-open, panel position, default-tab, profit-calculator defaults, a TikTok market selector and price-drop notifications, none of which exist in the extension. For the group-by-group reference see the settings configuration guide.

Quick answers
Frequently Asked Questions
1Where do I find AliShopping Tools settings?
Open any AliExpress page so the panel appears, then click the Settings tab inside the panel.
Settings live in the panel itself, not behind a separate options page.
Changes are not applied as you type — an unsaved indicator appears in the header and you click Save to commit, or Reset to go back to shipped defaults.
2What can I actually configure?
Six groups, and that is the whole surface: Locale (currency and ship-to country, which is what prices and shipping availability are looked up against), Preferences, Behavior (two toggles — auto-detect and automatic affiliate links), Appearance (interface display language), Privacy and Data, and About.
There is nothing else — no auto-open, no panel position, no compact or dark mode, no per-tab defaults.
3Can I set a target margin, a minimum score, or other thresholds?
No.
The extension has no threshold settings of any kind — no target-margin field, no minimum Winning Score, no saturation ceiling, no supplier-trust floor.
The Profit tab computes and displays a margin from the listing's own numbers; it is a read-out, not a filter you calibrate.
The analysis tabs show their scores and leave the judgement to you.
4How do I set the currency?
Settings > Locale > Currency.
Roughly eighteen currencies are offered, including USD, GBP, EUR and CAD, and every price across the panel then displays in the one you pick — which is what makes profit figures comparable across a research session instead of switching per product.
Ship-to Country sits in the same group and covers about forty-seven destinations.
5Does the panel open automatically on AliExpress product pages?
There is no auto-open setting.
The extension's own source carries an explicit note that auto-open, panel position, compact mode and dark mode were removed as not implemented.
You open the panel yourself.
What the Behavior group does offer is an auto-detect toggle and an automatic affiliate-link toggle — two switches, nothing more.
6Are there keyboard shortcuts for opening the panel?
No. The extension declares no keyboard commands in its manifest, so Chrome has nothing to bind and there is no shortcuts page to configure. Opening the panel is a click.
7Can I change the interface language?
Yes — Settings > Appearance > Display language, with sixteen options: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic and Hebrew.
Arabic and Hebrew render right-to-left.
This changes the extension's own interface text only; AliExpress listing text stays in whatever language AliExpress served.
8What privacy controls does the extension have?
Two, both in the Privacy and Data group: an anonymous-insights consent toggle, which stays off unless you explicitly switch it on and can be changed at any time, and a button that clears locally stored tracking data without touching the rest of your settings.
The extension requests only the storage and tabs permissions — notably not the notifications permission, which is why it ships no alerts of any kind.
9How do I reset AliShopping Tools to defaults?
Click Reset in the Settings tab header. Every group returns to its shipped defaults in one action and you can re-apply the few preferences you care about immediately.
